Student Enrichment Classes for 2021
Student Online Classes: June 28 – July 2, 2021
The 2021 Student Institute will be offering a short series of classes for students to sign up for ONLINE including:
Introduction to Black Classical Composers
Instructor: Chenoa Alamu Murphy,
Days/Times: June 28 - July 1, 10-11am PDT
Age Group: 9-14 years old, all instruments welcome/ no instruments needed for class) Limited Spots Available
What does a champion fencer, an autistic savant, a nun, and a sailor have in common? They are all classical music composers and musicians who contributed greatly in this field during the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. They also all happen to be of African descent. Currently, there are over 300 classical composers and musicians of African descent, both deceased and alive! This class will highlight 8 of them! Cost: $40

Join us for a one time group class with funny games and activities using Suzuki Books 1-4 For violinists and violists. Cost: $10
Texas Style Fiddling
Instructor: Sherry McKenzie
Days/Times: June 28, June, 30 & July 2, Various times
Age Group: Three sections/levels available
Level 1 (Suzuki books 1 – 2): We will learn two traditional fiddle tunes by ear! We will work on ear training and identifying patterns in fiddle music. Although tunes will be learned 'by ear' standard notation will be provided.
Level 2 (Suzuki book 2, Gavotte from "Mignon" and up): We will learn two B flat Hornpipes, tips on identifying repetition and form in fiddle music. Tunes will be learned 'by ear' but standard notation will be provided.
Level 3 (Suzuki book 4+): We will learn a fiddle rag and a waltz, tips on identifying repetition and form in fiddle music. Tunes will be learned 'by ear' but standard notation will be provided.
